Sunset TO Night Photography Workshop at Point Cartwright, Sunshine Coast, QLD

Discover the Wonders of the Night Sky

Join us for an exclusive Nikon School Sunset to Night Photography Workshop at the stunning Point Cartwright. This workshop is tailored for photography enthusiasts who are keen to explore the transition from the vivid colours of sunset to the ethereal beauty of the night sky. Whether you're refining your astrophotography skills or just starting out, this workshop promises an unforgettable experience under the stars.

Workshop Highlights

  • Duration: 3 Hours - 5:30pm to 8:30pm

  • Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate

  • Group Size: Limited to 8 participants for a personalised experience

Our journey begins an hour before sunset, from 5:30pm to 8:30pm, as we set up our gear and prepare to capture the transition from the rich twilight hues to the starry night. Under the expert guidance of Knighty’s Photography, you'll learn to photograph the early evening sky and, as night falls, how to master the technical settings necessary for capturing stars in low light conditions. While we won’t be chasing the galactic core, which will be the focus of our workshops starting March 2025, you’ll gain essential skills for stunning night sky photography.

What You Will Learn

  • ISO Settings: Mastering camera sensitivity for optimal twilight and night sky exposure.

  • Aperture Control: Manipulating light to achieve stunning depth of field and clarity throughout changing light conditions.

  • Shutter Speed Techniques: Capturing the dynamic sunset and creating beautiful long-exposure effects as stars appear.

  • Focus Techniques: Ensuring pinpoint sharpness for both landscape elements and celestial objects.

  • White Balance: Adjusting settings for natural-looking colours in changing lighting.

  • Composition: Applying principles to create visually captivating images from sunset to stars.

Recommended Gear

  • DSLR or Mirrorless Camera: Ensure your camera can handle low-light conditions.

  • Wide-angle Lens: 14-24mm or 16-35mm for expansive sky captures.

  • Tripod: Essential for steady long-exposure shots.

  • Spare Battery and SD Card: Be prepared for extended shooting sessions.

  • Headlamp/Torch: For navigating the dark and making camera adjustments.

  • Weather-appropriate Clothing: Dress for comfort during the evening and night.

  • Shutter Release Cable (Optional): For reducing camera shake during long exposures.

testimonials

I was absolutely stoked with the workshop, was a bit unsure with the constant rain but Dylan kept me up to date every day and honestly gave me peace of mind.
I’d been trying to learn on YouTube how to capture the Milky Way but honestly wasn’t having any luck until I got hands on and Dyl clarified a lot of the questions I had.
Would love to do this workshop again and soon!
Dylan was an attentive and knowledgeable instructor who was prepared to put in extra time in order to make sure the group had an opportunity to capture the images in a night of changing cloud conditions. He made sure to check on all photographers in the group and provided tailored advice to each individual.
The Astro photo workshop was excellent. Dylan was very knowledgeable and professional. He went over and above to ensure we all had a great experience and followed-up with addition information to assist us further. I would highly recommend a Nikon School Workshop and Dylan Knight.
